Draft — please have this reviewed before the site goes live. This policy describes how Finest Painters handles personal information in the way the business operates today. It is a starting point written to match the site as built, not legal advice, and it should be checked by someone qualified in Canadian privacy law — and updated — if analytics, advertising or online booking is added later.
Who we are
Finest Painters is a painting contractor based in Ajax, Ontario, serving Ajax and the Greater Toronto Area. In this policy “we”, “us” and “our” mean Finest Painters. “You” means anyone who visits this website or contacts us.
For anything to do with this policy or your personal information, contact us at [email protected] or (416) 997-8668, or write to us at Ajax, ON L1Z 1P8.
What we collect
We only collect personal information that you give us, or that we need in order to deal with the work you have asked about:
- When you ask for an estimate or contact us. Your name, email address, phone number, the address or area where the work would happen, and whatever you tell us about the project. You choose how much to include.
- When you phone or email us. Your contact details and a record of the conversation, so that we can answer you and keep track of the job.
- When you visit the site. The pages you request, and the technical information a web server normally records, such as your IP address, the time of the request and your browser type. This is used to keep the site running and to see which pages are useful. It is not used to identify you.
We do not ask for, and do not want, sensitive information — payment card numbers, government identification or health information — through this website. Please do not send it through a contact form.
Why we collect it
- To answer your enquiry and prepare an estimate.
- To arrange and carry out the work, including scheduling and any follow-up about the job.
- To keep a record of the work we have done, including for warranty purposes.
- To meet our legal and accounting obligations.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not use it to send you marketing you did not ask for.
Who we share it with
We keep it to the people who need it in order to do the work:
- Our own staff and, where a job calls for it, trades we bring in — limited to what they need to know to do their part.
- Service providers who host this website or handle our email on our behalf.
- Where we are required to by law, or in response to a lawful request.
We do not transfer your information outside Canada except where a service provider we use stores data in another country. Where that happens, the information is still protected by the agreement we have with that provider.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not lead to work are kept for a reasonable period so that we can pick the conversation back up, and then deleted. Records relating to completed work are kept for as long as we need them to honour our workmanship warranty and to meet tax and accounting requirements. Server logs are kept for a short period and then discarded.
How we protect it
Access to your information is limited to the people who need it. The site is served over HTTPS, and what you send through a contact form is stored on our own systems rather than published on a page. No method of sending or storing information over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security — but we take reasonable steps, and we will tell you if a breach affects you.
Your choices
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, or ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it. Write to [email protected] and we will respond within a reasonable time. We may need to confirm who you are before we act on a request.
You can refuse or withdraw your consent to our handling your information, within the limits the law and our agreements allow. If you withdraw consent, we may not be able to continue with an enquiry or with a job.
Cookies
This site uses the cookies it needs in order to work. Any cookie set here is for the site’s own operation rather than for advertising, and nothing here follows you across other websites. If analytics or advertising tools are added later, this section will be updated to describe them and, where the law requires it, to ask for your consent first.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version is posted on this page. The date below is when it last changed.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first at [email protected] so that we can try to put it right. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
